アメリカから日本へ。インターン生が感じた仕事と暮らしの違い

こんにちは。

現在、株式会社Desafiosでインターンシップに参加しているアメリカ出身のインターン生です。

日本での生活も1か月半が経ちました。この期間は私にとって非常に刺激的で、多くの学びを得られる貴重な経験となっています。今回は、日本での生活やDesafiosでのインターンシップを通じて感じたことをお伝えしたいと思います。

日本で最初に感じた「仕事への真剣さ」

日本に到着して最初に印象に残ったのは、人々の仕事に対する姿勢でした。

特に空港では、スタッフの方々が非常に丁寧かつプロフェッショナルに対応しており、質問にも親切に答えてくれました。その姿を見て、日本では一人ひとりが自分の仕事に誇りを持ち、責任感を持って取り組んでいることを強く感じました。

不動産とAIについて学んだこと

インターンシップでは、不動産業界について多くのことを学んでいます。

物件調査を行いながら、日本の不動産市場の特徴や、どのような物件が投資対象として魅力的なのかを理解する機会を得ました。

また、AIが業務の中でどのように活用されているのかについても学んでいます。

情報整理や業務効率化など、AIが果たす役割は非常に大きく、テクノロジーに興味のある私にとって大変興味深い経験となっています。

実際に取り組んだ業務

これまでの業務では、物件調査に加えて、WebサイトのデバッグやUIモックアップの作成にも携わりました。

特にUIデザインでは、ユーザー目線で使いやすさを考えながら設計する楽しさを感じました。

技術的な業務だけでなく、ビジネス視点も学ぶことができており、とても充実した日々を送っています。

日本での生活で驚いたこと

日本での生活は、アメリカとは大きく異なります。

特に印象的だったのは、公共交通機関の利便性と正確さです。最初は徒歩移動や電車での移動に慣れませんでしたが、今ではその生活スタイルを楽しめるようになりました。

また、街の清潔さや安全性の高さにも驚いています。こうした環境のおかげで、毎日安心して生活することができています。

忘れられない思い出

これまでで最も印象に残っている出来事の一つは、Desafios代表の浦谷さんと一緒に温泉へ行ったことです。

日本文化を体験できただけでなく、仕事以外の場で交流することができ、とても貴重な時間となりました。このような経験は、単なるインターンシップではなく、人とのつながりを感じられる特別な思い出になっています。

今後の目標

残りの滞在期間では、不動産の購入プロセスにもより深く関わりたいと考えています。

また、AIやデータ分析についてさらに学び、チームに貢献できるスキルを身につけていきたいと思います。少しでもDesafiosの事業成長に貢献できるよう努力していきます。

おわりに

このインターンシップは、私にとって仕事面でも人間的な成長という面でも非常に価値のある経験となっています。

日本での残りの時間も、一つひとつの経験を大切にしながら、多くのことを学んでいきたいと思います。

Over the past month and a half in Japan, my experience has been both exciting and eye-opening. Coming into this internship, I didn’t really know what to expect, but from the moment I arrived, I could tell this was going to be something very different from anything I had done before. 

One of my first impressions when I got to Japan was how serious people are about their jobs. I noticed this right away at the airport: everyone was super professional, patient, and helpful. Even when I had questions, they took the time to explain things clearly instead of rushing me. That kind of attitude really stood out to me and made me realize how much people here value doing their job well. 

So far during my internship, I’ve learned a lot about real estate, especially how things work in Japan. I’ve been doing property research, looking at different listings, and trying to understand what makes certain properties good investments. I’ve also learned more about how AI is starting to play a role in work today, especially in helping organize information. Since I’m interested in tech, that part has been really interesting to me. 

In terms of what I’ve worked on, I’ve been involved in a few different things. I helped with property research, did some website debugging, and also worked on UI mockups. The UI design part was actually pretty fun because I got to think about how users would interact with a platform and how to make it better. Overall, I feel like I’ve been able to try a mix of technical and business-related tasks, which has been a good experience. 

Living in Japan has definitely been different from living in the U.S. The biggest change for me has been how much I walk and how often I use public transportation. At first it was pretty challenging for me, but now I actually enjoy it. It makes it easier to explore and feel more connected to the city. Everything also feels really clean, safe, and organized, which makes daily life pretty comfortable. 

There have been a lot of things that surprised me. For example, how on time everything is, especially trains. It is kind of crazy how precise everything runs. At the same time, there have been some challenges too. The language barrier can make things harder sometimes, and getting used to a different work culture takes some time. But I think those challenges have helped me become a more independent person. 

One of my favorite memories so far was going to an onsen with the CEO, Shota Uratani. It was a really cool cultural experience and also a chance to connect outside of work. Moments like that made this experience feel more personal and not just like a typical internship. 

For the rest of my time here, I want to get more involved in the actual process of buying properties. I’d like to help Uratani san more directly and hopefully contribute to making profitable decisions for the company, Desafios. I also want to keep improving my skills, especially in areas like AI and data analysis, so I can become more useful to the team. 

Overall, this internship has been a really meaningful experience so far. I have learned a lot, both professionally and personally, and I’m excited to see what else I can do during the rest of my time in Japan.
